To Cram or Not to Cram, That is the Question

bhealth_protecting_bigbook

Staying up until 4 A.M. to cram for that test you should’ve been studying for days ago is almost a rite of passage for high school and college students. But new evidence shows that sleep may be as important as study. "…(Research) suggests that if you reviewed your notes thoroughly until you were tired and then slept, you'd achieve as much learning as if you'd pulled an all-nighter repeating your review of the material,"

says Michael P. Stryker, Ph.D., researcher at the University of California, San Francisco.3 Of course, sleep alone won’t help them ace the tests. But if your child wants to stay up all night re-reading for the fourth, fifth, sixth time, gently pull the book out of his or her hands and say goodnight.
