Sugars: Too Much is Too Much

bhealth_facts_choices

Although the body and brain need carbohydrates (the starches and sugars you eat in the form of grains and legumes, fruits, vegetables and dairy) to function, too much can actually hinder brain function.

When your kids eat a carbohydrate-heavy meal or snack, their bodies work quickly to clear the blood of sugar, storing some of it for later use. In more controlled quantities, the body will ensure that some carbohydrate be used to fuel the brain and all other internal organs that keep the body going.4
